This new 12 minute work was premiered April 24, 2022 and explores the “seasons” of life. Each text is from a different time and place, yet all reflect the theme of remembering. Fall begins with a rousing excerpt from Robert Louis Stevenson’s poem Autumn Fires that celebrates the change of seasons. Winter is a setting of the classic Robert Frost poem Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening. Spring reflects the bursting of spring through a traditional Japanese haiku poem by the composer titled Water Bells. Summer is based on the traditional Gaelic poem Olde Irish Blessing as we say goodbye and look forward to a time of rest. In the end, our work and memories from the “seasons” of life will not be forgotten.
Commissioned by Dr. Daniel Belongia, Director of Bands at Arkansas Tech University and a consortium of high schools and colleges, in honor of Professors Karen and Ken Futterer’s more than 40 years of service to the music department of Arkansas Tech University. Recording coming soon.
